To the editor:
Thank you for the excellent article about Glenna Johnson Smith. She was an extraordinary person.
Although I was not closely associated with Glenna I felt as though I knew her and that I was privileged to have the little contact I did with her. I read her book, “Old Maine Woman,” looked forward to reading her column in the Echoes magazine, saw her speak at the 25th anniversary for Echoes and had the opportunity to talk with her on a few occasions.
Her writings were entertaining, educational and usually very humorous. She was not only highly intelligent, she was genuine and had a way of viewing life that was admirable and unique. She spoke to strangers as openly and honestly as she would talk to someone she knew. Plus, she was a good model for aging graciously, which is a challenging process.
I have missed Glenna but am grateful that we had her here in Aroostook County. We are the better for it.
