The Mapleton fall youth soccer program began in all earnest last week following youth soccer assessments that were held in mid-August and early team practices.
In total there are nine teams in the Mapleton Recreation Soccer League. The team rosters were released on the Mapleton Recreation Facebook page. All teams are named for the color of their T-shirts: Pre-K-K students are the blue, green and red teams; first- through third-graders are the maroon, black and gold teams; and grades 4-6 are heather maroon, purple and black teams.
Game schedules and calendars were posted on the Mapleton Recreation Department Facebook page as well. Practices started the last week of August and continued through Sept. 3, with the season’s game play starting Sept. 7 and continuing through Oct. 14.
Two games are played each Monday through Thursday, with the first game starting at 3:30 p.m. and the second game starting at 4:30 p.m. Fridays will be used for make-up games should there be inclement weather.
All games will be played on the soccer field next to the Mapleton Lions swimming pool. Spectators are welcome.

Little League impact continues
The 2020 summer Little League season has ended, but the impact of the players’ actions continue into the fall.
The Little League’s service project brought in nearly 600 boxes of cereal for the Mapleton Town Community Chest. These boxes of cereal will provide food assistance through the fall into the winter.
Mapleton Little League teams competed in the third annual Cereal Bowl Competition, collecting just shy of 600 boxes of cereal for those in need. The cereal box collecting was turned into the Mapleton Little League “Cereal Bowl” Competition three years ago. The Doyen Farms Team collected the most boxes of cereal — 192 — in this year’s competition, which brought in nearly 600 boxes.
Officials at the town office appreciate the efforts made by the players and their families to collect this cereal for those in need.
