MAPLETON, Maine — Two people were injured after a head-on crash in a construction zone on Main Street in Mapleton on Friday afternoon.
Orpheus Allison, 56, of Mapleton was westbound going through a construction zone on Mapleton’s Main Street in a 2016 Chevrolet Suburban around 12:56 p.m. when he struck a 2013 Chevrolet pickup operated by Carter McLaughlin, 23, of Mapleton in the opposite lane, authorities said.
Police say Allison failed to move back into his lane as he traveled through a construction zone, striking the front of McLaughlin’s vehicle — halted in traffic at the time of the crash.
The crash caused severe damage to both vehicles and propelled McLaughlin’s car into a 2002 GMC pickup that was stopped behind him. The driver of that vehicle, Frank Marcello, received minor injuries.
Maine State Police said a medical condition seemed to be the cause of the crash, also saying that Allison’s speed was a factor. The Presque Isle Fire Department transferred Allison to Northern Light A.R. Gould Hospital in Presque Isle with non-life-threatening injuries. McLaughlin was not injured in the crash.
