Hunting — On Monday, Oct. 2, the first day of open time on large game, six deer and three bears were harvested in Northern Maine.
Colts – – L.W. Steven has sold a handsome pair of French colts to John Keating, who will use them for his Ten Cent Team.

Starch — Cyrus Small and Waldo Lowney have a crew of men making starch at their factory on the Madawaska stream, which they recently purchased from Glenn and Gary Messer.
75 Years Ago – Oct. 4, 1945
New assistant comes to Penney’s — J.O. Bedard has come to Caribou to accept a position as assistant manager at the J.C. Penney Company Store.
Community picnic for 4-H members — This year 29 4-H Club communities held community picnics or Health Days. They are attended by nearly 2,000 4-H Club members throughout the county. At these Health Days, games were enjoyed and some educational 4-H Club work was featured.
50 Years Ago – Oct. 7, 1970
Cleanup — FFA members Jeff Bell, Steve Brooker, Wallace DeVoe and Rodney Pelletier did some road cleanup in the Limestone area yesterday.
Heaviest fall rain in years damages homes, roads, crops — Widespread flooding and interruption of utilities caused crewmen of almost every service department into action as a severe electrical storm lashed the Caribou area late Saturday afternoon. The storm itself and intermittent rains in a 24-hour period from Saturday morning dumped a reported 4.06 inches of water, washing out sections of highway and portions of the railroad track, filling cellars and flooding in vast areas, causing damage which cannot be fully determined.

Honored — Joe Gaston of Caribou was recently honored as a 50-year-member of the Holy Rosary Court 1465 of the Catholic Order of Foresters. He was presented a congratulatory letter and 50-year-pin from Wilfred Bell, COF State Vice Chief ranger, and Elanor Bougoin, Chief Ranger.
Winner of $1,000 in groceries — Lawrence Pelletier recently won $1,000 worth of groceries from the “1995 Basic Needs Raffle” conducted by the Aroostook Retired Senior Volunteer Program. Presenting the prize were Jay Boyce, Shop & Save assistant store manager, Arline (Fergie) Ferguson, RSVP Caribou coordinator.
