Recent purchase — Geo. Welton has recently purchased the Roy Adams General Store at Hodgdon Corner, and it is now open for business.
New equipment — Messrs. Alberic E. and Edmond T. Mercier, who will take over the management of the Snell House, left for Boston and New York where they will purchase some new equipment for the house.
75 Years Ago – Oct. 11, 1945
Returned home — Dr. and Mrs. Carl Spaulding, who attended the National Encampment of the V.F.W. held in Chicago, have returned to their home. While there Dr. Spaulding, Dept. Senior Vice Commander, was appointed to the National Resolutions committee.
On a buying trip — Mrs. Bessie Wiggins of the Dry Goods Department of the Houlton Grange Store is on a buying trip in the Boston and New York markets.
50 Years Ago – Oct. 14, 1970
Veteran employees honored — Miss Mary Ramsdell and Mrs. Dorothy Nixon, veteran employees of the State Department of Health and Welfare, were honored last week with awards for meritorious service from the American Humane Association. Miss Ramsdell, who has reached 40 years of continuous service, is director of the division of child and family services in the Lewiston District office. Mrs. Nixon, formerly of Houlton, is a field supervisor for the same division working from the state office in Augusta. She was cited for having reached 25 years of service.
Five-year plaque — Ronald Henderson, Gulf dealer on the County road in New Limerick, received a five-year service plaque from Otis Putnam, president of Putnam Bros. Company of Houlton. Putnam Bros. is the Gulf distributor for Aroostook County.
25 Years Ago – Oct. 11, 1995
Helping hand — Dawn Degenhardt, the executive director of the Maine Adoption Placement Service in Houlton, accepted the donation of a copier from Susanne Sandusky, the executive director of the United Way of Aroostook. The donation is part of UWA’s Gifts in Kind Program, and worth about $3,500. The MAPS office is in Market Square in Houlton.
Every check counts — Houlton Regional Hospital recently received a check from the American Lung Association to help fund the HRH cardio-pulminary rehabilitation program, the second of its kind in the state. On hand for the presentation were, Larry Tonzi, RN, staff nurse in the Emergency Department and member of the American Lung Association; Dr. Brian Tiep; Debi McCann, CCRN; Dr. Ted Sussman, president of HRH medical staff and Christopher Brown, RRT and board member of the ALA.
