PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — The Nordic Heritage Center was the site of a multi-squad cross-country meet Monday as runners from Houlton/GHCA, Fort Fairfield and Presque Isle competed.
“Our students enjoyed much nicer weather and better conditions at the Nordic Heritage Center today than we would have had in last Wednesday’s rain,” Houlton coach Chris Rines said.
Monday’s make-up race hosted by Presque Isle featured an interval start — a style more commonly used in cross-country skiing — which released a single runner from the starting position every 15 seconds, according to Rines. Athletes were lined up with appropriate social distancing measures in an alternating fashion between Fort Fairfield, Presque Isle and Houlton.
Houlton’s Daniel Ross was the overall boys’ race winner, completing the course in 19 minutes, 35.2 seconds. Anna Jandreau of Presque Isle was the top girls’ runner at 22:51.6.
The Presque Isle boys won their team division as they were the only full scoring team. The Houlton/GHCA girls were also victorious in the same manner.
