PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — The open enrollment period for health coverage through the Affordable Care Act runs from Nov. 1 through Dec. 15 this year, and the Aroostook County Action Program is available to help those who want to enroll.
The Marketplace was designed to provide access to affordable health care to individuals and families without access to health insurance coverage. Eligibility guidelines for the program include citizenship status, lack of access to other plans and premiums are income based.
ACAP is part of the Community Action Navigator Consortium and is a partner in a statewide network of certified Health Insurance Marketplace navigators. Navigators can provide free individualized assistance to help clients apply for and enroll in coverage through the marketplace.
“Health insurance plans in the marketplace can be very affordable and provide the coverage that local families need,” said Stanley Targonski, ACAP health care navigator.
Navigators are not affiliated with any insurance company and provide fair and unbiased advice to assist the uninsured. Navigators can help access programs that could lower client’s monthly health premiums and out-of-pocket costs. Navigators also help clients better understand the available options.
Health plans issued for 2021 will have new requirements, including benefits for hearing aids, insulin cost sharing cap, changes to behavioral health coverage, as well coverage for reproductive health.
