HERSEY, Maine — A Stacyville woman has been charged with eluding police and driving to endanger, among other charges, following a high-speed chase Friday morning on U.S. Route 11 in Hersey.
While Trooper Hunter Cotton was trying to detain her as a suspect in a crime report, Cynthia Burley, 39, would not comply and drove off at about 10:30 a.m., according to the Maine State Police.
Burley, driving on the wrong side of the road, led troopers on a chase on Rt. 11 where speeds exceeded 85 mph, police said. The road was shut down for a short time due to the vehicles in the roadway.
Cotton used a PIT maneuver, in which police nudge the rear bumper of a fleeing car to cause it to turn abruptly sideways and force the driver to stop, which stopped Burley’s vehicle, police said.
Burley was arrested and taken to the Aroostook County Jail. Police charged her with felony eluding, refusing to submit to arrest, criminal mischief, driving to endanger, operating after suspension and violation of condition of release.
A court date has not yet been set.
