Caribou student named commended student in National Merit Scholarship program

CARIBOU, Maine — Caribou High School senior Ryan C. Dee has been named a commended student in the 2021 National Merit Scholarship Program, according to an announcement from RSU 39 Superintendent Timothy Doak and Caribou Principal Eric McGough.

 A letter of commendation from the school and the National Merit Scholarship Corporation, which conducts the program, was presented to Dee by Superintendent Doak, Principal McGough and Assistant Principal Evan Graves on Friday, Oct.16. 

About 34,000 commended students throughout the country are being recognized for their exceptional  academic promise. Commended students placed among the top 50,000 scorers of more than 1.5 million  students who entered the 2021 competition by taking the 2019 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test. 

 Ryan Dee is a member of the Class of 2021 and is the child of Mark Dee and Dr. Krista Burchill of Caribou. Dee is an engaged student who excels academically as well as athletically at Caribou High School,  Principal McGough said.

“As principal of Caribou High School, it brings me  great pride to award students for their academic efforts and excellence. Ryan Dee has been and continues to be a model student and continues to demonstrate leadership and academic excellence and is very deserving of this honor and award,” McGough said.
