PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — The Aroostook Agency on Aging will offer a number of virtual classes during December, all intended to help older people and their care partners succeed and thrive in their own homes.
Classes are free and will be held online. Preregistration is required. Participants will receive a link after they are registered.
The upcoming sessions include the following.
Medicare 101
Wednesday, Dec. 9, 9 to 11 a.m., online.
Can you save money on your Medicare? What options do you have for coverage? Do you need Advantage plans or Supplements? This session with Tara Henderson, Medicare education coordinator, will cover some of the available options.
Falls Prevention
This informational session is from 10 to 11 a.m. on Wednesday Dec. 9.
Participants will gain an overview of falls prevention and other health classes available in Aroostook County. Call 764-3396 for more information or to preregister.
Senior Medicare Patrol
Fraud & Abuse
Wednesday, Dec. 9, from 2 to 3 p.m.
Have you been a victim of Medicare fraud? Do you want to learn ways to protect yourself from scams? How can you inform others about Medicare? Tara Henderson, Medicare education coordinator, will explore these issues.
Brain Health
Brain Health: You can make a difference will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 15.
We all know the importance of physical, mental, social, and emotional wellness. But do you know having a healthy brain improves your mood and decreases the likelihood of having illnesses that threaten your quality of life? Our monthly online Brain Health class helps participants create goals that impact on their life and boosts their brain health.
Conversations
Wednesday, Dec. 16, from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Talking about the things you want for yourself can be challenging. There are so many questions when you plan for the future: will I have enough money, will someone make decisions for me, does anyone really know what is most important to me, or does anyone know what makes me afraid? Our online Conversations class can assist you in developing questions or sharing concerns that you have with your loved ones and family doctor.
Virtual Tai Chi
Two new classes of Virtual Tai Chi for Better Health and Balance will begin in January, sponsored by Aroostook Agency on Aging in partnership with Healthy Living for ME. There is a $20 fee.
Tai Chi is an enjoyable exercise that can improve balance, relieve pain, and improve health and ability to do things. It is a slow exercise. It is easy to learn and good for all ability levels. To pre-register and receive a link to this Zoom class, please contact Jane Hanson at 764-3396.
