First hawk sighting — C.E. Wright saw a large hen hawk as he crossed a field in Caribou last week. It was the first he has seen all year.
100 Years Ago – Dec. 30, 1920
Vacation— Donald Robertson, who is taking a medical course in Boston, is spending the vacation with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. O. Robertson, of New Sweden.
75 Years Ago – Dec. 27, 1945
School collects $35 for Jr. Red Cross — One hundred percent of the students of Caribou High are now members of the Junior Red Cross. The $35 which was collected will go to the war veterans.
50 Years Ago – Dec. 30, 1970
New dam — Limestone drew closer to construction of a dam across Limestone Steam when it applied for the permit. The dam will feature a 36 inch diameter fishway.
25 Years Ago – Dec. 27, 1995
Limestone initiates public access TV programming — Supporters say public access television provided by the Limestone Community School and Paragon Cable’s Channel 20 provides an important link within the community. The channel provides 24-hour community news and public service announcements.
Seatbelt law goes into effect today — Beginning today, people driving in the State of Maine will have to wear their seatbelts to abide by the law. According to Caribou Police Chief Arthur N. Gorney, the fine for breaking the seatbelt law is no less than $25.00 and no more than $50.00.
