CARIBOU, Maine — A Fort Fairfield couple welcomed their new daughter on Jan. 4, who happened to be the first baby of the new year at Cary Medical Center.
Octavia Nanci Jasmin was born at 11 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 4, 2021, to proud parents Samantha and James Jasmin of Fort Fairfield. Octavia weighed 6 pounds, 13 ounces, and was 18.5 inches long. She was delivered by Bonnie Bouchard, a certified nurse midwife, and Dr. Yesim Kural, OB/GYN with Pines Health Services.
Octavia and her parents were presented with gifts from the hospital, along with a handmade quilt from Crown of Maine Quilters and a basket of gifts from the Cary Medical Center Auxiliary.
Cary Auxiliary members personally donate gifts and handmade items for the New Year’s baby basket, which includes items for the baby and for Mom and Dad. Auxiliary members have coordinated this project and made personal donations for over the last decade to the first baby born in the New Year at Cary.
Ladies from the Crown of Maine Quilters have also made it a longstanding tradition to donate a beautiful handmade quilt for the New Year’s baby.
With about 20 active members, the Cary Medical Center Auxiliary continues to thrive, supporting the hospital by hosting various fundraisers with proceeds supporting many hospital projects.
