124 golf in hoop hall of fame event
FORT FAIRFIELD — The third annual Maine Basketball Hall of Fame Golf Scramble, held Saturday, Sept. 14 at Aroostook Valley Country Club, was another huge success.
A crowd of 124 golfers, including many former and current players, coaches and officials along with basketball fans, took part in the event to help raise funds for the Maine Basketball Hall of Fame, which will be located in a wing of the newly-constructed Cross Insurance Center.
Following an introduction of special guests, an auction was held, with items including four Boston Celtics tickets against the San Antonio Spurs.
Crystal trophies were awarded after the meal to the winning low gross team of Tim Nightingale, Larry Gardner, John McCrea and Steve Leitch. Low net winners were Bert Daniels, Frank Dunn, Bruce Sargent and Matt Day. Winners in the ladies division were Helen Dixon, Lynn Dooling, Betty Weston and Tricia Scull.
Eight teams in all received prizes in addition to the longest drive contest winners, who were Brian Shannon in the men’s division and Danielle Searles in the ladies division.
