Presque Isle soccer teams shut down Bapst

The Presque Isle Wildcats collected a soccer sweep over visiting John Bapst Saturday, with the girls reaching the .500 mark for the first time this season and the boys earning its fifth consecutive victory.

The PI girls used a penalty kick by junior Hannah Graham midway through the second half for the game’s only goal in the 1-0 win over the Crusaders. The Wildcats, now 3-3-2, held a 21-10 advantage in shots on goal, with freshman Jillian Flynn recording the shutout with seven saves on the afternoon.
The victory came on the heels of a 6-1 decision at Foxcroft Academy Thursday. PI was back on the road Tuesday when it traveled to Bar Harbor to take on Mount Desert Island. The two teams played to a 1-1 tie in Presque Isle Sept. 14.
Meanwhile, the Presque Isle boys continued their high-scoring ways by putting eight on the board while blanking Bapst. PI has now scored 26 goals during its five-game winning streak after having netted only three in its first three matches.
Speedy junior striker Ben Nickerson did most of the damage Saturday, notching the first five goals. Sophomore Kyle Rider added a pair, the first two of his varsity career, while Cody Lyford left the goalie box momentarily to drill in a penalty kick to cap off the 8-0 win.
The Ashland boys had their five-match unbeaten streak snapped Monday in a 2-0 loss to Southern Aroostook in Dyer Brook.
Jackson Mathers and Cameron Landry scored for the Warriors, who recorded their fifth consecutive shutout. Tim Tarr made nine saves for the Hornets in the loss.
Ashland had beaten Katahdin Thursday, 7-0. Cody Blair scored four times to register his third consecutive hat trick. Mark Chasse and Michael Cook also tallied, while Jarrett Beaulier notched his first career goal. Zachary Carr had a pair of assists, while Mark Chasse and Lucas Craig added one each. Tarr and Malcolm Milligan handled the goalkeeper chores for the winner and combined for seven saves.
The Hornet girls moved to 8-1 after stopping Southern Aroostook Monday, 5-0, and the Katahdin Cougars Thursday, 8-0.
Ashland’s goal scorers against SA were Marissa Chasse with two and LeAnn McNally, Ally Beaulier and Chelsea Vaillancourt with one each.
Against Katahdin, McNally had a hat trick, Savannah Flint and Cassidy Pelletier put in two goals each and Chasse had the other for the winners. Macie Bellanceau had an easy day in recording the shutout as she saved both shots she faced.
The Fort Fairfield squads swept matches against Limestone-MSSM Thursday. The FF girls, now carrying an 8-2 record, had four different players score in the 5-1 victory. Janae Libby had two, while Logan Bubar, Sarah Owens and Taylor Churchill added one each. Bubar also assisted on two goals.
Chelsey Pelkey scored the lone Limestone-MSSM goal.
The Tiger boys won their second match of the season with the 2-1 verdict. Ryan Player scored a goal in each half to provide the offense. Dalton Cassidy saved four of five shots in goal for the 2-6-2 winners.
Anas Beshir had the Eagle goal and goalkeeper Sam Kupiec turned away five of seven shots.
