HODGDON, Maine — The shortened basketball season saw its first overtime game on Tuesday, Jan. 19, as the Hodgdon and Washburn boys needed an extra period to decide a winner.
After battling to a 47-47 stalemate at the end of regulation, the Hawks went on a scoring run to collect their first win of the year, 62-52.
Sophomore Walker Oliver continued his hot start to the year, pouring in 29 points for Hodgdon. Troy Hipsley added 14 points, while Oisin Gardiner chipped in eight; Drew Duttweiler, five; Caleb Nash, four; and Isaac Jurson, two.
For Washburn, Beckham Vaughn had a team-high 16 points. Aidan Churchill added 13 points, while Ben Turner had 11; Parker Corey, five; Mitchell Turner, four; and Derek Cruz, three.
Washburn led 14-11 at the end of the first quarter, but Hodgdon took a 28-17 lead at the halftime break and clung to a 38-33 edge after three stanzas.
