Lack of snow postpones Aroostook County Sled Run by one month

PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — Organizers of the second annual Aroostook County Sled Run have postponed the event until March 6 due to a lack of snow on local snowmobile trails.

The Sled Run was originally scheduled to occur on Saturday, Feb. 6, but now will take place Saturday, March 6. The event is a fundraiser for Striking Out Cancer, a team of MMG Insurance employees and community members affiliated with Relay for Life.

Team member Heidi Estabrook noted that the new date will include the same schedule of activities, as previously announced in January.

“It was a difficult but necessary decision for the safety of all participants,” noted Estabrook and Sled Run organizers in a Facebook post. “Due to the lack of snow, the trails have stumps, bare ground and rough conditions at this time.”

The Sled Run will serve as one of Striking Out Cancer’s major fundraisers for Relay for Life, a program of the American Cancer Society.
