CARIBOU, Maine — Caribou Police are still searching for a man who is on the run after he allegedly was involved in an assault reported on Jan. 7.
A woman on the Caribou Lake Road reportedly shot a man at noon when he allegedly attempted to assault her, according to Caribou Police Chief Michael Gahagan last month,
Police describe the man as white with longer, dark hair, a mustache and facial scruff. He was wearing a blue Ford baseball cap and fled in a black, older model pickup truck with a front windshield viser.
Though the woman did fire at the alleged assailant, police are not able to confirm with 100 percent certainty if the shot missed. If it did connect, police say he likely would have a wound in his left shoulder.
Laura Adams, administrative assistant for the Caribou Police Department, said on Feb. 3 that officers are still actively investigating the reported shooting and that they have been receiving tips about the incident since it occurred.
“We’re still following up on leads and investigating tips when they come in,” she said. “At this point we’re still looking.”
Adams said the woman is safe, but that she did not know the alleged assailant or his name.
She said that while it is likely that he is still in the area, his current location is unclear.
