PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — The abridged winter sports season continues for basketball and hockey athletes. Coaches are asked to submit their sports reports, including final scores and individual statistics to Joseph Cyr at jcyr@bangordailynews.com.
The following games were reported to the newspaper.
Presque Isle 9, Black Hawks 0
At the Forum in Presque Isle Feb. 3, Hiwatha Paul and Quinn Demerchant both recorded hat tricks with three goals apiece to lead the Wildcats to victory. Ethan Carlisle, Garett Letourneau, Dawson Kinney added solo goals.
Gavin Faye got his first shut out of his career saving 10 shots. Elijah Matheson 30 saves on 39 shots for the Black Hawks.
Presque Isle girls 64, Caribou 43
The Wildcats (3-0) broke out to a big lead early and used balanced scoring en route to a 64-43 victory over the Vikings (0-4) in the first of three meetings between the rival schools.
Presque Isle led 18-6 at the end of the first quarter, 39-15 at halftime and 51-24 after three quarters.
Nine different Presque Isle players reached the scoring column, with Anna Jandreau and Faith Sjoberg each netting a pair of 3-pointers as both tallied 10 points. Hattie Bubar was a spark off the bench in the first half with three 3-point field goals for nine points.
Sadie LaPointe, another Wildcat reserve, tossed in nine points and Rhylee Kinney added eight. For the second consecutive game, PI’s substitutes played a key role as they combined for 29 points.
Selena Savage was Caribou’s standout performer with 21 points, including three 3-pointers. Ashlyn Bouchard chipped in with eight points and Saffayia Durepo netted six.
Caribou boys 57, Presque Isle 30
At Caribou, Sawyer Deprey led the Vikings (3-0) with 18 points, while Cory Herbert had 15 points, Caleb Espling added 10 and Ethan Holdsworth had nine.
For Presque Isle (1-2), Connor Rideout and Xavier McAtee both had seven points, while Malachi Cummings and Jacob Devine each had five.
Caribou led 8-6, 20-13 and 38-21 at the quarter breaks.
