WASHBURN, Maine — School officials from SAD 45 announced that their schools will return to a hybrid plan of learning following the February break.
The district transitioned to remote learning this past week after learning of a positive COVID-19 case within SAD 45.
Superintendent Larry Worcester, in a letter to the district on Friday, stated that on Monday, Feb. 22, both the elementary and high school in Washburn will return to a hybrid learning plan. Due to the smaller size of Washburn’s schools, all staff and students are able to socially distance and attend full school days on their designated days.
Students in pre-K to grade five will attend school Monday through Friday while those in grades six to 12 will attend Monday through Thursday. On Fridays, students in the later group will attend “Response to Intervention” days, if they are recommended by a teacher, to complete assignments and maintain passing grades.
School will dismiss at 2 p.m. and after school activities will take place from 2 to 4 p.m. Monday through Thursday.
Worcestor recommended that families follow the Maine CDC’s travel guidelines for February break. All students who travel to a state other than New Hampshire or Vermont must isolate for 10 days to monitor for symptoms and then an additional four days if they experience symptoms. In order to forgo the 10-day isolation, a student must receive a negative COVID-19 test 72 hours prior to returning to Maine.
