Teacher of the Month - - Woodland Consolidated School teacher Fran Savage has been named The Caribou Chamber of Commerce Teacher of the Month for February.  100 Years Ago – Feb. 24, 1921

Looking to set up shop — Frank Johnson of Caribou was a business caller who was in town a few days this past week, looking over the site for a barbershop, also calling on his brothers, Lewis and George Johnson. 

Valentine’s party — The teachers and pupils of the Woodland Center School were entertained Saturday afternoon at a Valentine’s party at the home of Mrs. Marjorie Goodridge. Games were played and the children enjoyed themselves very much.

75 Years Ago – Feb. 21, 1946

Creamery to expand — Rotarians discussed future plans of Katahdin Creamery to expand in Caribou at their meeting this week. Leo Davenport of the Creamery said the company’s current Caribou facilities serve as the pasteurizing and distribution point for the surrounding towns . The creamery plans to increase its milk production to about 100,000 quarts per day.

Record-breaking meeting — The largest meeting in Caribou Farm Bureau’s history occurred Tuesday when about 150 farmers met at the Caribou Municipal Building. Not only was the meeting’s attendance a record, membership in the organization is larger than it ever was. The Farm Bureau now boasts 238 members, the most attracted by any Farm Bureau in Maine.

25 Years Ago – Feb. 21, 1996

Honored for 40 years — The First Baptist Church of Woodland recently held a special evening service to honor Madeline Albert, who recently retired after serving on the church’s Social Committee for 40 years. She was presented a plaque by church President, Herbert Ketch.

Collecting used eyeglasses — The Caribou Lions Club members have installed three bright yellow eyeglass receptacles throughout Caribou for the public to deposit used eyeglasses that are sent to the Volunteer Optometric Service to Humanity organization to be recycled and distributed to those in need in other countries.  The receptacles are located at the offices of Drs. Willard Hamiltin and James Savage at One Vaughan Place, Paradis IGA Foodliner on Bennett Drive, and at the Caribou Shop ‘n Save Supermarket on High Street. Committee members involved with the eyeglass program locally include John Lancaster, program chairman, King Lion Earl Lewis, Larry Doody, Wayne Violette, Bob Crawford and Gerald Masse.
