Nice catch — Emmons Robinson recently made a nice catch of pickerel at Nickerson Lake and brought home 8 fine fish weighing 14 pounds.
Houlton woman to aid speaker of the House — Miss Mary W. Boulter of Houlton has the distinction of being the first woman to be appointed as a Special Messenger to the Speaker of the House of Representatives. She is also believed to be the first woman in the country to hold this position.
75 Years Ago – Feb. 21, 1946
Trucking concern changes hands — The Houlton Truck Express, the oldest transport trucking concern in Northern Maine and one of the oldest in the State has been sold by its owner Charles O. McDonald to LeForest and Vaughn Gallop this week.
Large crowd at Court of Honor — Despite the inclement weather about 100 Scouts and Scouters gathered in the assembly room of the Houlton High School Thursday evening for the first Court of Honor held in Houlton for some time. Presiding over the event was Rev. Percy Hayden. The event had many high points of interest, among which was the presentation of a film depicting Sea Scouting.
50 Years Ago – Feb. 24, 1971
Bible Point an official historic place — The scenic spot near Mattawamkeag Lake in Island Falls is known as Bible Point, and it has been named to the State Register of Historic Places. This is the spot where Theodore Roosevelt, as a youth, came to read his Bible, and thus it took the name of Bible Point.
Postal information assistant — Lynwood Cyr, clerk at the Houlton Post Office, received a training certificate as a Postal Information Assistant from William Bolger, New England Regional Director of the U.S. Postal Service. The new PIA program is aimed at providing the public with a better, more complete understanding of the programs and objectives of the Postal Service. The PIA is selected by his Postmaster for this assignment.
