Weather postpones hoop playoff games

HOULTON, Maine — Strong, blustery winds and bitterly cold temperatures resulted in numerous Aroostook County schools opting not to hold classes Tuesday, March 2.

As a result, all of the high school basketball playoff games scheduled for Tuesday have been pushed to Thursday.

In addition, the Presque Isle hockey game against Hampden Academy and the Houlton Hodgdon game against John Bapst have been postponed to later in the week.

The one basketball remaining game on the schedule, was also postponed late Tuesday afternoon.

The Thursday makeup schedule for Class B/C games will be: No. 6 Madawaska at No. 3 Houlton, 5 p.m.; No. 8 Fort Kent at No. 1 Caribou, 6 p.m.; No. 7 Fort Fairfield at No. 2 Central Aroostook, 6 p.m.; and No. 5 Hodgdon at No. 4 Presque Isle, 6 p.m. 

In boys Class D division, Thursday’s makeup games are No. 7 Ashland at No. 2 Easton, 6 p.m.; No. 6 Katahdin boys at No. 3 Southern Aroostook at 6:30 p.m., and No. 5 Washburn at No. 4 Wisdom., 6 p.m. Top-ranked Van Buren has a first-round bye.

The semifinals for boys will now be pushed to Saturday, March 6.

The girls schedule remains unchanged, with quarterfinals taking place Wednesday, March 3. In the B/C division, No. 7 Caribou is at No. 2 Houlton, 6 p.m.; No. 5 Hodgdon is at No. 4 Fort Fairfield, 7 p.m.; and No. 6 Fort Kent is at No. 3 Central Aroostook, 5 p.m.

For Class D, the girls schedule sees No. 5 Ashland at No. 4 Washburn, 4:30 p.m.; No. 6 Van Buren at No. 3 Katahdin, 5:30 p.m.; and No. 7 Easton at No. 2 Southern  Aroostook, 6 p.m. No. 1 Wisdom has a first-round bye.

The Girls Divisional Finals have been moved to Monday, March, 8 and the Boys Divisional Finals will now be Tuesday, March 9. The Girls Aroostook Championship is now set for Wednesday, March 10, and the Boys Aroostook Championship will be played Thursday, March 11.
