HOULTON, Maine — On Saturday March 6, an initiation ceremony for the Order of DeMolay was held at Monument Lodge No. 96 in Houlton. Four youths were initiated along with 10 Master Masons as honorary members.

The Order of DeMolay is a young men’s organization that teaches leadership, love for one’s parents, and other timeless values.

Present at the ceremony were Most Worshipful Thomas Pulkkinen, past grand master of Masons in Maine; Right Worshipful Richard Rhoda, past grand senior warden and senior DeMolay; Rok Morin, Maine DeMolay executive officer; Worshipful Kai Libby, worshipful master of Monument Lodge, as well as numerous state officers of the order and brethren of various lodges in the area.

DeMolay is open to young men ages 12-22 with boys ages 9-11 able to join as Squires. DeMolay is named after Jacques DeMolay, the last Grand Master of the Knights Templar.

Houlton has a rich history with DeMolay, and the new Hugues De Payens chapter is welcomed back after a decades long absence. The new chapter is named after the co-founder and first Grand Master of the Knights Templar.
