WOODLAND, Maine — About 20 Woodland residents gathered in the public works garage on March 16 for the town’s annual meeting, in which the municipal election results and $1,208,916 budget were approved.
For the election, incumbent Thomas Drew was re-elected to the selectboard for another three-year term with a total of 61 votes. Three residents left the selectmen slot blank and there were two additional write-ins.
There were two open seats for the school board, but Ashley Brydon was the only person on the ballot. Brydon and Sherri Parker were elected to fill the seats, receiving a respective 50 and 30 votes. Parker was a write-in. Forty voters left the school board section blank, and there were 12 additional write-ins.
All 30 articles on the warrant were approved with minimal discussion, and the meeting lasted roughly 40 minutes.
This year’s public works budget increased by $53,250 for a total of $374,250. The additional funds will go toward equipment repair, road maintenance, salaries and salt and sand.
The ambulance rates paid to the city of Caribou, which were among last year’s most significant increases, slightly decreased this year by $500 to $114,300. Anticipated revenues also saw an increase of $17,300 this year, with a total of $390,300 compared to last year’s total of $373,000.
Overall, this year’s municipal budget represents an increase of $24,888 over last year’s budget of $1,184,028.
