CARIBOU, Maine — A Caribou man was arrested early Saturday morning after a nearly nine-hour standoff with police, which involved the man allegedly threatening a woman and two teens with a firearm.

Bobby Arsenault, 46, of fCaribou was charged with two counts of criminal threatening with a dangerous weapon, both Class C felonies; one count of creating a police standoff; and one count of violation of conditional release.

At approximately 4:15 p.m. Friday, Caribou police responded to a call at 64 West Gate Road. The caller stated that a man had threatened a woman and that two teen boys, whose names have not been released, were holding him down.

Not long after, police received a second call indicating that Arsenault had barricaded himself in a bedroom, still brandishing the firearm.

Upon arrival, Caribou officers successfully led the woman and teens to safety. Officers from the Limestone Police Department, Aroostook County Sheriff’s Office and Maine State Police were called in for assistance and closed the West Gate Road and nearby Thompson Road for the public’s safety.

Throughout the late evening hours of Friday, Arsenault failed to respond to police attempts to communicate with him until approximately 1 a.m. Saturday when he surrendered peacefully and was arrested.

Arsenault was transported to and treated at Cary Medical Center for dog bites and has since been held at the Caribou Police Department.

An investigation is still ongoing and more charges might be filed, according to Caribou Police.
