We’ve been chosen — the Central Aroostook Humane Society has the honor of being selected for Jordan’s Way Fundraiser scheduled for Wednesday, May 19, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Founder Kris Rotonda is on a 50-state tour visiting between eight and 10 shelters in each state, and will visit our shelter this week.
Kris has been featured on the Dodo and the Hallmark Channel. The event will be on Facebook, using a live feed for four straight hours. We would love to encourage companies and our community to become involved by doing fun things like ice bucket challenges, pie faces and much more. These events are full of energy and will help raise money for our shelter pets.
Kris’s long-term goal is to “Clear the Shelters” and raise money for all shelters with the help of the media, rescues, and the community. We hope you will plan to stop by and support this exciting, fun event.
Want to have some summer fun with your dog? The weather is finally amazing — it’s the perfect time to get outside with your dog and make the most of it. But are you scratching your head, wondering what activities both you and your dog can do together? Not to worry, there are several fun things to do with your dog this summer.
Go for a swim. Take your dog to the lake and play fetch in the water. Take your dog in the morning or late afternoon when it’s not too hot out. Maybe a ride in a kayak or canoe would be fun, not only for you but your pooch.
Run through the sprinkler. If your dog’s not a swimmer or there’s no lake close by, a sprinkler is the next best thing. Revert back to your childhood and show your dog how it’s done. How about a kiddie pool? They may like that.
Go on a hike. It’s best to hike during the cooler part of the day. Animals love to explore the outdoors as much as humans do.
Take a road trip. Hit the open road with your furry partner in crime and see where it takes you. Perhaps it’s a visit to friends in another town you haven’t seen in a while. Or perhaps it’s to a place you’ve always wanted to explore. It doesn’t matter — but call ahead to ensure that any overnight accommodations you make allow for dogs. There are plenty out there. The number of pet-friendly hotels, resorts and bed and breakfasts is always growing, thanks to all the pet parents out there who travel everywhere with their dogs.
Keep cool. There’s nothing like a frozen treat to cool you off on a hot day. So why not treat your dog as well? Dogs should not eat frozen treats meant for humans, but I’ll bet they would enjoy an ice cream cone.
When participating in anything with your dog in the heat, avoid the hottest times of the day, bring plenty of water (and a portable bowl) and don’t overdo it. Watch your dog for signs of overexertion or heatstroke, and make sure to take regular shade and water breaks.
