New personnel at druggist — Adam Bouchard has accepted a position with the Gammon Bros. Druggists this week.
Cyclone touches down — A young cyclone visited many places in the area Sunday, lifting buildings from their foundations, ruining shade trees and doing damage estimated to be in the thousands.
75 Years Ago – May 22, 1946
Memorial Day parade — Plans for what is to be expected to be one of the largest Memorial Day parades in the history of Caribou were completed this week, according to Roy Snowman, Chairman of the Committee.
Large number of forestry jobs — Errol Burns, manager of the United States Employment Agency Office in Caribou, said today there are more than 2,375 jobs open in Northern Aroostook. Burns said about 1,900 of them are forestry positions.
50 Years Ago – May 25, 1971
Stockholm pulp — The Bangor and Aroostook Railroad has been busy hauling out pulp. It is estimated that about 50,000 cords are shipped from Stockholm each year.
The final touches — Workmen of Cianbro Bros. are completing construction of a $40,000 plus dam at Collins Pond. The new drained pond is expected to provide a 14 acre body of water affording excellent recreation possibilities to the city as well as fire projection for the central business district.
25 Years Ago – May 22, 1996
Ms. Physique — Kelly Holmquist of Caribou has been named Ms. Physique Maine 1996 after winning the contest last month in Bangor. In winning she became the only contestant from Aroostook County to win the title.
Boy Scouts converge — Last weekend Boy Scouts from all over Aroostook County gathered at Trafton Lake in Limestone for the annual Spring Camporee. It marked the first time Limestone Troop 193 has hosted the event. 15 different troops and 10 packs were represented. More than 270 youth attended the event.
