HOULTON, Maine — The U.S. Border Patrol’s (USBP) Houlton Sector has announced the selection of a new Chief Patrol Agent.
On May 21, William J. Maddocks was selected for the position of Chief Patrol Agent for the Houlton Sector. Chief Maddocks assumed command on May 24. He takes over from Acting Chief Patrol Agent Jason Schneider, who served in the role since May 2020.
Chief Maddocks entered on duty with the U.S. Border Patrol in 1997 and has held numerous leadership and command assignments over the course of his career. He has served in sectors on both the Northern Border and Southwest Border and has also held multiple positions at USBP Headquarters in Washington, DC. Chief Maddocks’ most recent permanent assignment was as the Deputy Chief Patrol Agent of Swanton Sector (Vermont).
“Returning to Houlton Sector is like coming home for me,” Chief Maddocks said. “No matter where my career has taken me, it seems that all roads always lead back to Houlton. It’s good to be home, and I am both proud and humbled at the opportunity to lead the fine folks that make up the USBP Team here in Maine”
As a Deputy Chief, Maddocks’ record of leadership successes resulted in the USBP assigning him to serve as the Acting Chief Patrol Agent there in Swanton on several occasions, as well as other sectors, to include the Grand Forks, North Dakota and Havre, Montana sectors, before finally selecting him for the permanent Chief assignment at Houlton Sector Headquarters.
This is Maddocks’ third assignment within Houlton Sector, which encompasses the entire state of Maine, and operates out of six Border Patrol Stations to patrol the 611 miles of land border and 3,478 miles of coastal border.
Chief Maddocks is originally from Connecticut, and he previously served in the U.S. Army from 1983 to 1987.
