PRESQUE ISLE HIGH SCHOOL received a donation for $5,000 recently, as part of the Score with Intel Core School Donation competition the local Staples store participated in earlier this year. Pictured for the check presentation are, from left to right: Rick Driscoll, district sales manager for Intel; Darrin Collins, Staples’ manager; PIHS Principal Donna Lisnik; and PIHS Vice Principal Ben Greenlaw.

The Presque Isle Staples store earned the funds through the Score with Intel Core School Donation competition held earlier this year. The local retailer placed second in the national contest and selected the PIHS as their choice to receive the money.
The ceremony, held at the high school in October, allowed Rick Driscoll, district sales manager for Intel, to congratulate both parties and award a plaque to the store and a plaque and ceremonial check to the school. The cash price, according to Driscoll, will be “ideally used towards technology for the school.”
“Redbook magazine has listed PIHS as a ‘school of excellence.’ When you work and study hard, you’ll do well in life,” said Driscoll, noting during the presentation that he “felt like Santa.”
Darren Collins, Staples’ manager, was also on hand for the presentation.
“The Intel program loves to give us stuff when we participate on their site. We were named the second-place winner,” said Collins.
Driscoll said Collins’ facility was recognized through Intel’s Retail Edge Program for “having a helpful staff who proved to be professional in aiding customers.”
“Technology’s always changing. This will go a long way in upgrading technology today. Costs are coming down, which means you can buy more,” said Driscoll. “Good luck in the future.”
PIHS Principal Donna Lisnik, Vice Principal Ben Greenlaw and several members of the Student Council were on hand for the presentation.
Lisnik said she had an idea how some of the money will be used but plans are being made for the rest.
“One thing we’ll use it for is a flat-screen TV as you come in the front door, to post updates on good things happening at the school,” said Lisnik. “This is wonderful. I’m still planning how to use the rest of the money.”
