PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — The City of Presque Isle is partnering with local Elks Lodge 1954, Presque Isle International Airport, the Presque Isle Air Museum and Presque Isle Historical Society to hold a huge event in celebration of Independence Day.
The event, the July 3 Jubilee, is free to the public and will feature fun happenings for all ages from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. that day.
The event will take place in front of the General Aviation Hangar at the airport (1000 Airport Drive). It begins at 11 a.m. with the Elks’ annual cook-out and car show with live music by the Soggy Bottom Boys featuring Wendell Hudson and friends. From 2-6 p.m., there will be a “meet and greet” with local beauty queens, a Touch-a-Truck event, a bounce house and child fingerprinting by the Presque Isle Police Department. In addition, visit the Presque Isle Air Museum, also with free admission, located in the southern end of the Presque Isle International Airport terminal (please enter through the south door) just down the street at 650 Airport Drive.
The evening is jammed packed with activities as well. At 6 p.m., enjoy a free concert with the Maine Army National Guard Band at the stage in front of the hanger. At 7 p.m., watch a slideshow of “Private Presquey’s D-Day Adventures.” Remember the little stuffed bear that flew overseas with the C-47s that stopped in Presque Isle in May of 2019 as they made their way over to the 75th anniversary of D-Day? He had quite the trip visiting Newfoundland, Iceland, England, Scotland and France sending home photos of his trip all along the way. Private Presquey will arrive by limo with a Presque Isle Police Department escort! Then at 7:45 p.m., enjoy live music by Hoss & Lurleen, who will lead us right up to the fireworks display at 8:45. At 9 p.m., sit back and enjoy John Wayne’s 1953 movie, “Island in the Sky.” This movie is based on the true story of a rescue originating out of Presque Isle during WWII of a downed plane.
So, pack up the kids, bring your lawn chairs and join the City, Elks, Presque Isle International Airport, the Presque Isle Air Museum, and Presque Isle Historical Society for a fun-filled free day of celebration.
Parking will not be allowed inside the event gate. Look for the signs along Airport Drive for parking locations.
