Work is underway at Beaulieu’s Garage in Caribou to give the Maine Solar System Model planet Saturn a “face lift.”
Here, Nelson Theriault sands the surface of the planet to prepare the structure for a new fiberglass cover. The planet also will get a new paint job thanks to volunteers and is expected to be back in orbit later this summer. Established by the University of Maine at Presque Isle and the northern Maine community, the Maine Solar System Model is the largest scale model of the solar system in the Western Hemisphere, and the second largest such model in the world.
