The celebration was hosted by their children, Jennie and Don and his wife Jennifer Sandusky.  Their grandchildren Lily, Luke and Lorenzo were event helpers.

Food and cake were served to the many family members and friends who attended the celebration.  A special treat for everyone was unlimited ice cream provided by the Scoops ice cream trailer, owned by Christa Galipeau and family.  Christa is a lifelong friend of Jennie Sandusky’s; the two went through school together and participated in each other’s weddings.

The Sanduskys thanked everyone for the cards and anniversary greetings they received.

Terry Sandusky explained, “The first time I saw Susanne in an office hallway she made quite the impression on me. Later when I was lucky enough to work with her at the Hopkinsville Branch of the University of Kentucky, things just blossomed until we were married.”

Susanne was impressed with his kindness and support to her and her son, Donnie.  That impression grew into a love that is carrying them into the next 50 years.  The family lived in Kentucky for four years before relocating to Maine.  They have been Mapleton residents for 44 of the 50 years of their marriage.  They both add that they will never leave Mapleton “because it is our home.”

Lions Come to the Fair

This week the Mapleton Lions Club will offer fair food at the Northern Maine Fair.  The club will take over the Turf Grill Food Booth, which will now be called the Lions Den.  They will be open the same hours the fair is open, from 4 to 9 p.m. on Aug. 4 and 5, and from 12 to 9 p.m. on Aug. 7 and 8.

The club will sell favorite fair foods like sausage sandwiches, doughboys, burgers, red hot dogs and fresh-cut fries. This is a fundraiser for Lions charities through the year.

The club encourages everyone to come and support their work, which includes assisting with the upgrade of Mapleton recreation facilities, Mapleton Christmas lighting, the Recreation Department summer program, purchase of eyeglasses for the needy, Mapleton Daze, club college scholarships, and other donations.

Enjoy the club’s good food and know that you are helping your neighbors in Mapleton, Chapman and Castle Hill.

The club will also serve food at the Northern Maine Fairgrounds later in August at the Crown of Maine Balloon Fest.  The Lions Club is the event host ,when 12 balloons arrive Aug. 25 to fly through Aug. 29.
