For over 10 years, the State Road Advent Christian Church has participated in Operation Christmas Child. Samaritan’s Purse has sponsored the shoebox ministry since 1993, delivering shoeboxes filled with gifts and the message of the gospel all over the world.
This year State Road set a goal of collecting 200 boxes. According to Chelsea Cheney, organizer, the church collected 224 boxes. The boxes are filled with toys, school supplies, soap, toothbrushes, toothpaste, etc. Some families include a personal letter in their boxes.
Samaritan’s Purse now allows families to follow their boxes by printing out a bar code and taping it to the box. Once the shoebox has been shipped, an e-mail is received noting where the box is located. The youth from the State Road Church assisted in packing more toiletry items in the boxes and making sure each was organized and ready to ship.
