LIMESTONE, Maine — A local medieval educational group will host the Limestone Renaissance Faire Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 18 and 19.
The Twin Riverswood organization will hold the event at The Bunker Inn, 17 Virginia Place, on the Loring Commerce Center.
Most events will take place Saturday between 10 and 5 p.m., and will include medieval-inspired demos, combat, youth activities, merchants and vendors. On Sunday there will be a feast (for a maximum of 20) and other events from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., including medieval-themed courses, entertainers and more combat and youth activities.
This faire will be outside, utilizing different parts of The Bunker Inn’s grounds for the demos, merchants and performances, including the tennis courts and the back lawn area.
The inn’s conference room will be used for classes on Sunday for those who wish to learn more on different aspects of medieval and Renaissance life.
The first faire was held in 2019, with Karralena Castaway, Twin Riverswood leader and secretary of the Limestone Development Foundation, coordinating efforts. Attendance was small, but the response was favorable and the group received resounding requests to plan another event. The 2020 festivities were canceled due to COVID, but planning continued for this year.
There are still openings for people who wish to volunteer to help Twin Riverswood put on the event, do a demo or feature merchant wares that would have been used in the time period from 1200 to 1600.
Merchants and food vendors have a modest fee to pay to have a 10×10 space and must provide their own pavilion and/or canopy, as well as any energy source they may need.
Funds from a local business and a grant from the Aroostook Partners in the Arts have helped Twin Riverswood prepare to put on the event.
