115 Years Ago – Sept. 11, 1906
Buys a winning horse — Jeff Bradbury has purchased from Milton Lufkin the yearling filly Airline by Lord Arleigh, which won a blue ribbon at the Northern Maine Fair.
New potato house — Dr. Sincock has recently erected a large potato house on his place just North of the water tank.
100 Years Ago – Sept. 14, 1921
Mirrors should be added — People driving trucks on the roads should conform to the law and provide their machine with a mirror. Due to the trucks making so much noise it is impossible to hear the horn of an approaching auto, making it hard to pass safely.
Huge haul of spuds — Wednesday was a big day in Caribou as far as potato offerings were concerned. From early morning until dark farmers from every road were hauling load after load, until the numbers of barrels received went far ahead of any other day’s business in the history of potato buying.
75 Years Ago – Sept. 11, 1946
Moving to garage — Pierson Motor Company, Caribou are moving the latter part of the week to their new garage building, located next door to their present quarters on Sweden Street. The building will house everything needed including parts, repair rooms, show rooms and offices.
75th Anniversary of New Sweden Baptist Church Observed — In observance of its 75th anniversary, the New Sweden Baptist Church over the past weekend arranged and carried out a program which extended through Sunday night. Musical numbers were a feature of the service which was largely attended.
50 Years Ago – Sept. 14, 1971
Outstanding Service — An award for outstanding service was presented to Donald Caron, salesman and Raymond Levesque, sales manager, of the Prudential Insurance Company. During the months of July and August, Caron sold over $500,000 of life insurance.
World of nature — The mysteries of nature’s world received a close scrutiny by students of the 2nd grade in Sincock School. They all carried magnifying glasses on a field trip. Attending the trip were Mary Holmes, Pat Gurettee, David Hitchcock, Collettee Hutchins, Scott Davis, Kirk Whittmore and Kristi Anderson.
25 Years Ago – Sept. 11, 1996
Mitchell hired at charities — David Mitchell of Limestone has been hired to fill the position of warehouse manager at Catholic Charities of Maine with more than 20 years of experience in warehousing, most recently at the former Loring Airforce Base.
P.L. Willey joins with Ace — P.L. Willey Company of Caribou has purchased an Ace Hardware franchise, said Mary Rossignol, accounts payable and payroll clerk. Rossignol said the integration of Ace Products expands their product line.
