LINCOLN, Maine — The Houlton golf team bested a field of several other schools to collect the Penobscot Valley Conference championship Friday at the JATO Highland Golf Course.
With the victory, the Shires qualified for the State Class C championships set for 11 a.m. Saturday at the Natanis Golf Course in Vassalboro.
At the PVC competition, Houlton’s Collin Moody shot a 77 to lead the Shires. Results for other shire golfers were: Garrett Harvey, 86; Kollin Irish, 97; Alyssa Nightingale, 100; Abby Fitzpatrick, 116; and Madalyn Quirk, 118.
Houlton’s team score of 360 was nine strokes ahead of second-place Dexter (369). Orono, the defending state champs, were third with a 378, while Mattanawcook Academy rounded out the four squads who all qualified for states.
Houlton coach Dave Grant was also named the Coach of the Year.
