HOULTON, Maine — Donning pink jerseys as part of their Cancer Awareness campaign, the Houlton boys and girls soccer teams faced stiff competition from visiting Madawaska Monday, Oct. 4.
The Houlton boys (1-4 overall) had a rough go against the Owls (8-1-1), falling 6-0 in the first game of the evening. The Shire girls (4-1) had no such difficulty as they rolled to a 4-0 victory over Madawaska (6-3).
The first game was dominated completely by the visiting Owls, with Madawaska’s Carson Cyr scoring the first goal 12 minutes into the first half. Cyr added two more goals during the game to complete a hat trick for the outing. Ian Beaulieu added an additional two scores, and Brady Gagnon scored once.
In the girls game, it was Houlton’s turn to dominate as Shire Maddie Marino scored the first goal with five minutes left in the first half. In the second half, the Shires really came alive, with Samantha Johnson rapidly scoring two goals in successive fashion. Gabby Gentle added an additional goal to make the final score 4-0.
