FORT KENT, Maine — The Presque Isle High School boys and Houlton/Greater Houlton Christian Academy girls teams took top honors at the Aroostook League Championships Tuesday at the Fort Kent Outdoor Center.
The Presque Isle boys took home first place with a team score of 12 points, followed by Maine School of Science and Mathematics with 31.
Houlton/Greater Houlton Christian Academy topped the girls teams with 13 points, marking the first time in the program’s history that the group has won the County championship.
The Fort Kent Community High School girls came in second with 35 points, followed by Presque Isle with 42.
Brayden Castonguay of Presque Isle proved the fastest individual runner and fastest boy at the cross country meet with a time of 18 minutes, 20.7 seconds.
Teanne Ewings of Houlton/Greater Houlton Christian Academy recorded the winning individual girls time at 21:40.6.
“It was a great day for racing in Fort Kent yesterday,” said Houlton coach Chris Rines. “The fall foliage was in full bloom at the Fort Kent Outdoor Center/10th Mountain Ski Club venue. Many of our runners were still feeling the effects of Saturday’s Festival of Champions race in Belfast, but nevertheless they rose to the occasion and we were able to take home some awards.”
Annabelle Reardon was the speediest runner for the Fort Kent girls, placing sixth with a time of 25:44.4. Also finishing in the top 10 for the Warrior girls were Rowan Tanguay who completed the race in 24:08.3 and Emma Landry at 28:04.2.
Landry was recognized prior to the race for senior night, along with her parents, Adam and Jessica Landry.
