School opens — School opened Monday in the Wright and Lister Districts with Mrs. Ray Parker and Miss Velma Norton as teachers.
75 Years Ago – Oct. 16, 1946
Potatoes bound for children’s home — Mr. Philip Anderson expects to send the annual donation car of potatoes to Klingberg’s Children’s Home next week.
Four spuds equals one peck — Just four Aroostook potatoes such as one submitted to the Maine Potato Sweepstakes this past weekend by Ruben Oullette of Caribou would make over a peck. The prize spud weighs 4 pounds and 2 ounces and is 21 inches long and has a girth of 13 inches.
25 Years Ago – Oct. 16, 1996
Local Iironman — Mike Mendonca, of Cross lake, has been training for the Ironman Triathlon World Championships to be held in Hawaii. Mendonca is the fitness director of the Caribou Parks and Recreation Department.
Caribou School Department prepares for Net Day — Caribou school officials are making final preparations for NetDay 96 this Saturday, as part of a nationwide effort to wire school rooms and libraries to the internet. Carl Ouelette, technology director for the Caribou schools, said the response from the community members and business has been good.
