Easton Recreation Department sent six representatives to the County Elks’ Hoop Shoot on Saturday, Jan. 4, at the University of Maine at Presque Isle in the Weiden gym.
Youth in grades three through eight participated in the local Hoop Shoot conducted during physical education classes. Hoop Shoot is a national foul shooting competition held each year. Earning the right to represent Easton were in the 8-9 age group: Austyn Cowley and Brayden Tompkins; 10-11 age group: Austyn Caver and there was a tie between Eva Callioras and Emma Lamoreau; 12- to 13-year-old qualifiers were: Cecilia Morin and Isaac Currier!
Winter Ball
The 2014 Winter Ball hosted by 2013 Easton queens Cassandra Buck and Anna Tompkins is set to be held Jan. 31. The Ball will be held from 6-10 p.m. and is open to all area students in 7th grade and up. It will be held at the Easton Odd Fellows Hall. Cost is $6 at the door. Food and drink are included, as well as a live DJ. All proceeds will held sponsor the upcoming 2014 Easton Community Fund-raising Pageant. For any additional questions, call Tina at 768-0798.
Seniors starting New Year meetings
The Easton Senior Happy Days Club will meet at the Manor on Thursday, Jan. 9, for an 11:30 a.m. potluck dinner. The guest speaker will be Easton Town Manager Jim Gardner. He will be talking about the town and the new projects for the year. The club will select a nomination committee for the new officers for 2014. Installation of the new officers will be Jan. 20. This will be the first meeting for 2014 due to the holiday period. All Easton seniors are invited to attend and bring a friend for a delicious dinner and interesting conversation.
Upcoming Rec programs
New exercise class for older adults: Senior Swagger. If you love to dance but have difficulty standing or walking for long periods of time, Senior Swagger class is just for you. Senior Swagger exercise is a chair-based fitness program that uses upbeat music but modifies the dance moves to allow participants to be seated while exercising.
Senior Swagger class lasts 30 minutes. The easy-to-follow, friendly and fun dance fitness program is a great way for seniors in retirement communities, nursing homes and assisted living facilities to build camaraderie and make exercise part of their weekly schedule. This program will run on Wednesdays, Jan. 8, 22 and 29 at 1 p.m. in the Recreation Room at the Manor.
Easton Recreation’s 1st and 2nd grade basketball team will begin practices every Saturday in January starting the 11th from 9-10 a.m. All practices will be held in the elementary school gym. Please be sure your child has gym sneakers and a water bottle. Please register your child by writing to recreation@eastonme.com.
Easton Rec’s 5th and 6th grade basketball will begin for boys on Wednesday, Jan. 8, from 4:30-6 p.m. and then take place every Saturday morning from 11:15 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. starting Jan. 11.
A complete game schedule will be distributed at their first practice.
BOKWA
Theresa Bonner will be offering BOKWA classes on Wednesdays from Jan. 8-29 after school until 4:15 p.m. The cost is only $8 for all four sessions. Please pre-register by e-mailing or calling the Recreation Department. Payments can be sent to school in an envelope or be dropped off at the Town Office. This is open to ages 4 and up!

Friday, Jan. 10 — Junior Activities at the Hall from 9:30-11 a.m. Senior Game Day at the Manor starting at 11:15 a.m. Please bring a bag lunch. Little Bears’ cheerleading after school in the cafeteria until 4 p.m.
Saturday, Jan. 11 — Little Bears’ 1st and 2nd grade practice from 9-10 a.m. in the elementary school gym. Little Bears’ 3rd and 4th grade practice from 10-11:15 a.m. in the elementary school gym. The 5th and 6th grade boys’ basketball practice will be from 11:15 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. in the elementary school gym.
Monday, Jan. 13 — Senior Nutrition Class with Cooperative Extension starting at 11 a.m. in the Recreation Room at the Manor. The fee is $3. After-school cooking, this month’s topic is “gluten-free kids.” We’ll be making “ham & oinks.” The class is free.
Tuesday, Jan. 14 — Little Bears’ 3rd and 4th grade at 3:30 p.m. in the elementary school gym.
Wednesday, Jan. 15 — Junior Activities at the Hall from 9:30-11 a.m. Senior Swagger cancelled for today only! BOKWA after school at the Hall until 4:15 p.m. Boys’ grades 5 and 6 basketball practice from 4:30-6 p.m.
