ALLEN, Leona C. “Ticky”, 86, MAPLETON, January 2, 2014. Arrangements are in the care of Duncan-Graves Funeral Home, Presque Isle.

MAPLETON – Leona C. Allen, 86, went peacefully to join her beloved Ricky, Thursday, January 2, 2014, with her special friend, Jennifer at her bedside at a local hospital. She was born on March 22, 1927, in Fort Fairfield, to Roy and Belle Clark.
She married the love of her life, Hazen “Ricky” Allen on May 25, 1949. Together, they shared a love of harness racing, making annual trips to the Blue Hill Fair and Rockingham Race Track in New Hampshire.
She worked several clerical jobs over the years, including at A.R. Gould Memorial Hospital. She was employed as a legal secretary locally for Judge Burleigh, the B & A Railroad, Hugo Olore and George Blanchard. More recently, she worked for the Department of Health and Human Services under the Employment in Training Program as a clerk’s stenographer. She retired from this position in 1987. She is also remembered for selling Beeline Clothing, volunteering for Meals on Wheels and serving as a notary public. She was a member of the Mapleton United Baptist Church where she held the office of church secretary for several years. She was also a member of the Mapleton, Chapman and Castle Hill senior citizens and volunteered her time as treasurer over the years. She served on the Aroostook Area Agency on Aging’s Board of Directors for the past twelve years, right up until her death.
She enjoyed bowling, but her most recent passion was playing bridge with her friends at The Gathering Place in Presque Isle. She had a huge heart for animals and will be missed by her young kitten companions, “I-go” and “U-go.” “Ticky,” as she was lovingly called, had a wonderful sense of humor and loved to joke and laugh. She enjoyed lunches at The Pizza House with friends after Sunday service.
As her health limited her outings, she loved and was loved by those caring for her in her home, including Laurie and Monica and nurse, Sharon. In her final days, she was given wonderful, compassionate care by the doctors and nurses in the Critical Care Unit at TAMC.
Having no children or grandchildren, she is survived by special friends, Aaron, Jennifer and Madelyn Buzza, who loved and adored her like a grandmother. She is also survived by nieces, Roxanna Adams of Orrington, Rhonda Delano of Presque Isle, Rosemary Delano-Merritt of Eddington,  Kathy Perry of Westerville, OH, Pamela White of Jasper, GA, Paula Lambert of Smyrna, GA, Susan Squillace of Palm Beach Garden, FL, Treena Clark of Chicopee, MA, and Joy Labrie of Old Town; nephews, Glen Smith of Allentown, PA, Mickey Perry of Lufkin, TX, Blake Perry of Waterville, Tyler Perry of Houlton, Ralph Delano of North Conway, NH, George Bartlett, Jr. of  Roswell, GA, and Philip Scott Williams of Stratham, NH, David Clark and Robert Clark of Palm Beach Garden, FL; sister-in-law, Velda Williams of Old Town. She will be missed by several loyal friends that she could count on for anything.
She was predeceased by her husband, Ricky; parents, Roy and Belle Clark; siblings: Vivian Smith, Viva Perry, Verlie Russell, Alta Delano Smith, Betty Bartlett, Chandler Clark, and Roger Clark; niece, Trudy (Williams) Walo; and nephews, Ronnie Perry, Dale Smith and Sheldon Smith.
Friends called from 1-2 p.m., Tuesday, at the Duncan-Graves Funeral Home, 30 Church Street, Presque Isle. Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. with the Reverends Kenneth Phelps and Otto Palmer officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to the Aroostook Hospice Foundation, “House of Comfort,” P.O. Box 867, Presque Isle, ME 04769.
