MARLBOROUGH, Massachusetts — Emily Collins capped off a successful fall by capturing the U12 girls’ division at the Area I Elks Regional Soccer Shoot held at Fore Kicks Sports Complex Nov. 5.
Area I consists of all six New England states along with New York. She tallied 50 points to claim the title. The runner-up was Grace Rapaccinolo of the Mechanicsville/Stillwater Lodge of New York, with third place going to Ava Freethy of the Saugus/Everett Lodge of Massachusetts.
Collins also was the recipient of the Francis A. Joyce Award as the girls’ high scorer in the senior division of the competition.
Collins won three contests leading up to the Area I event. She took first in the lodge competition held Sept. 19 at the University of Maine at Presque Isle before prevailing at the districts in Bangor on Oct. 3 and the state competition, also in Bangor, held Oct. 17.
Collins is the daughter of Darren and Michelle Collins of Mapleton.
Cooper Hickey of Easton also was the winner of those first three competitions to qualify for the regionals in the boys’ U8 division. He went on to place third at the Area I regionals with a score of 33.
Hickey is the son of Ben and Stacy Hickey of Easton.
