Frozen — Collins Pond has frozen over and some smaller boys are enjoying the glary ice. They should however be very careful about venturing onto it.
Wait… what? — The figure of a woman advertising “Vespur of Catarrh,” operated by electricity in the window display at S.L. White’s Drug Store, is attracting a lot of attention. As the figure bows to passers-by, a few people thought the figure was real and bowed back.
100 Years Ago – Nov. 24, 1921
Trip to Boston — Edgar Russ, one of Caribou’s prominent businessmen and an extensive grower and shipper of potatoes, returned last Thursday from a few days spent in Boston on business about potatoes.
Area learns of Millinocket loss — Millinocket lost its high school building Saturday evening by fire. The loss is said to be nearly $70,000. It is reported that Millinocket even before this fire had been planning on building a new $250,000 high school in the coming year.
75 Years Ago – Nov. 20, 1946
New showroom — Hundreds of people visited the F.S. Tibbetts Inc. showroom Saturday afternoon and night to inspect the new Kaiser on display there. Manager Sid Tibbetts estimated over a thousand people passed through the showroom.
Caribou man installed Master of Grange — The Aroostook County Pomona Grange No.7 installed Alfred Thomas, Caribou, as the master of the organization at the annual meeting held in Limestone, Saturday, Nov. 16.
50 Years Ago – Nov. 24, 1971
Fire department schedules dance — The Thanksgiving Eve Dance at the Caribou High School will be the 49th annual event to be sponsored by the Caribou Fire Department. The department invites the area public to attend.
March opening set for new theater — A March opening is the goal for the Twin Cinemas under construction at the northeast end of the Caribou Shopping Center on Access Highway. The new cinemas will seat about 440 people at one time.
25 Years Ago – Nov. 20, 1996
Home donated to WHS — The Lagerstrom family recently donated its family home on the Seelander Road in Woodland to the Woodland Historical Society. They gave the 100-year old house along with 10 acres for the purpose of creating The Lagerstrom Museum.
Blue Cross sponsors artists — Maine Blue Cross/Blue Shield was the major sponsor of a special musical event, the 1996 Northern Maine Folk Festival, held earlier this year at the Caribou Performing Arts Center. The concert, featuring Schooner Fare, along with the Caribou High School Chorus, was sponsored by Cary Medical Center.
