Jolly jazz dance — The dance in the Grange Hall on Thanksgiving night was well attended. The music was provided by Joe’s Jolly Jazz Orchestra of Houlton.
Stenographer makes a move — Miss Mary Bolter, who has been the stenographer for Judge Chas. Barnes for a number of years, has accepted a new position with the J.R. Harvey Insurance company.
75 Years Ago – Nov. 27, 1946
Trap shooters display skills — The highlight of the Turkey Shoot on Sunday was the exhibition of expert marksmanship put on by Charles Coffin, Ozzie Grimm, C. Beals and Floyd McGary in the trapshooting event.
Grange Store changes hands — Guy McKenzie of Island Falls has purchased the Grange Store business in Island Falls. He will continue to carry the same line of goods as has been carried in this store for the past 40 years.
50 Years Ago – Dec. 1, 1971
Auction offers tree decorating — Each year the Rotary Radio Auction offers some personalized services to aid the cause. This year Christmas tree decorating was the service up for bid. The successful bidder was Thom Willard, Houlton’s town manager, and the tree he wants decorated is the one the town erected for the season at Union Square.
New Junior Miss — Miss Debbie DeLong, daughter of Hilston and Saragh DeLong of Littleton, was crowned Junior Miss Houlton at the Houlton High School Saturday evening.
25 Years Ago – Nov. 27, 1996
Conservation District awards — At the recent annual awards banquet of the Southern Aroostook Soil and Water Conservation District, local farmers were recognized for their work in 1996. Dan Corey was named the Conservation Farmer of the Year, and Al Brewer and Billy Hill also received recognition awards.
Shaw picks up third FAME award — Tim Shaw, assistant vice president and committed lender at Katahdin Trust Company, was recognized by the Finance Authority of Maine with the distinguished Dirigo Award for 1996. The award is in recognition of his leadership efforts in helping Maine businesses.
