PIPD’s Seeley promoted to detective

PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — The Presque Isle Police Department has announced the promotion of Tyler Seeley to detective.

Seeley will be responsible for conducting investigations for cases, conducting interviews and examining evidence. He will also be receiving training for his new Civil Rights Officer position.

Seeley has been a part of the Presque Isle community for his entire life thus far. He attended Presque Isle High School, then went to college at the University of Maine at Presque Isle. After he graduated, he followed in both his father’s and grandfather’s footsteps, and joined the Presque Isle Police Department in 2017, completing a legacy of three generations.

“It is always interesting speaking with different generations of police officers,” Seeley said.” I speak with my father and grandfather a lot, and police work has changed a lot over the years.” You can take stuff from early on when police work started, then the middle way, and then it has shaped the way I do my work today.”

Seeley enjoys being able to help others through his investigations, whether it’s getting victims the necessary resources, or being able to provide closure for the families involved in a death investigation. He has already investigated a wide variety of cases, such as burglaries, assaults and drug-related deaths.

With this promotion, Seeley will also become the new Civil Rights Officer for Presque Isle.

“I do need to get training first, but then after that it’s just like any other investigation as far as I am concerned,” Seeley said. “Just take it as they come in and investigate the case as far as I can. Someone needs to investigate these cases, and I’ll take it on as a challenge like everything else.”

This promotion also allows for more cases to go to Seeley, rather than the regular patrol officers, creating a more organized process for handling cases.

“We are rather busy, and unfortunately we haven’t had a detective for a couple years,” Seeley said. “I think the position will be good to take some of the bigger investigations off from the patrol guys, so that hopefully there can be a quicker turnaround for victims and design a case being closed out.”

When Chief Laurie Kelly was reviewing the applicants for the detective position, Seeley’s record and application were an immediate stand-out.

“After looking at all the applicants and a compilation of their most in-depth cases and reports, Tyler Seeley stood out above the rest,” said Presque Isle Police Chief Laurie Kelly. “Tyler is self-motivated and dedicated to his cases.  We are happy to promote him to detective and know he will have many quality years ahead of him.”
