Foul shooters advance

    The Benevolent Protective Order of Elks hosted its Maine Northern District Hoop Shoot Jan. 12 at the J.F. Doughty School in Bangor, and several youth from Aroostook County participated.

    In the girls’ 8-9 age group, Faith Sjoberg of the Presque Isle Lodge came in first place. For 10-11 girls, Madison Stratton of Caribou, representing the Presque Isle Lodge, was first and Olivia Henderson of the Houlton Lodge second. For 12-13 girls, Kolleen Bouchard of the Houlton Lodge was the runner-up.
    The boys’ 8-9 runner-up was Brayden Castonguay of Washburn, who was representing the Presque Isle Lodge, while taking third was Isaiah Gentle of the Houlton Lodge.
    Nick Perfitt of the Houlton Lodge came in first place for 12-13 boys, with Austin Findlen of Caribou, representing the Presque Isle Lodge, took third.
    Sjoberg, Stratton and Perfitt all earned the right to advance to the state championships, to be held at Brunswick High School Sunday, Jan. 26.
