Red Sox’ trophy coming to PI

Approximately four months after the Boston Red Sox won the World Series, the trophy will be making a trip to the Star City.

The planned date of arrival is March 5 and parade/escort will be organized to showcase the trophy and according to Jane Towle, event director for the International Biathlon Union Youth Junior World Championships, it will also be displayed during the biathlon’s medal ceremony taking place at the Aroostook Centre Mall that evening.
Towle said Andy Shepard, executive director of the Maine Winter Sports Center, was the driving force in securing the visit to Presque Isle, and especially to have it coincide with the biathlon.
Jim Bennett, the Presque Isle City Manager, also sent an invitation to the Red Sox to have the trophy displayed in the city.
Other Maine stops are planned at the University of Maine at Orono this Friday and at the Cross Insurance Center in Bangor the following day.
