PRESQUE ISLE, Maine – The Presque Isle girls basketball team is now 7-3 on the season and in fifth place in the Class B North standings after gaining a victory over Winslow Jan. 9 and then falling to No. 1 Old Town Saturday.
Both contests were played at the PIHS Gymnasium.
The Wildcats jumped to a 20-point halftime lead en route to a 60-42 victory over Winslow. Anna Jandreau led the Wildcats with 22 points and eight rebounds, while Faith Sjoberg tallied 13 points.
On Saturday, PI played an outstanding first half against the top-ranked Coyotes, leading by a point at intermission, but Old Town turned things around over the final 16 minutes to prevail, 56-47.
The Coyotes outscored Presque Isle 15-7 in the third quarter and were bolstered by a 7-for-8 effort from the foul line in the fourth period to cement the win.
Old Town had four players in double figures in scoring, led by Makayla Emerson’s 14 points. Maddie Emerson had 11, while Saige Evans and Sydney Loring both added 10.
Sjoberg turned in a strong offensive performance for PI, scoring 25 points including five 3-point field goals. Jandreau contributed eight points, five rebounds and four assists, while Karlyn Gilmour, making her first career varsity start, grabbed a team-high six rebounds.
