115 Years Ago – Feb. 7, 1907
New manager chosen — Caribou citizens generally are glad to learn that Chas. B. Margesson has been chosen as manager of the P. of H. opera house. No better selection could have been made, as Mr. Margesson is thoroughly posted on all matters historic and takes a deep interest in the work.
Repaired and improved — Carpenters are busy making the intended repairs on J.A. Clark’s dry goods store. When completed, the store will present a vastly improved appearance, as well as being much more conveniently arranged, more shelf room and lighter.
100 Years Ago – Feb. 9, 1922
Resigning and naming successor — Chester A. Grant, who for three years has served so efficiently as superintendent of schools and who resigned in January on account of failing eyesight, left last week for Clinton Me. His successor, William H. Miner, who has been in Caribou for several weeks, has entered upon his duties.
Away on business — Arthur G. Vose, the genial and accommodation manager of the local telephone exchange, went to Van Buren on business Wednesday.
75 Years Ago – Feb. 6, 1947
Briggs Hardware to reopen — Briggs Hardware Company are announcing plans to reopen Monday with a complete line of hardware in the location formerly occupied by the Selective Service Office on Washburn Avenue. New merchandise has been arriving daily and it is expected that a large assortment of goods will be on display by the opening day. The Briggs Company was one of the stores losing their location in the recent Sweden Street fire when five businesses were burned out.
New duties — Miss Eleanor Hede of Stockholm has taken up new duties as housekeeper at the Fredrick Johnson residence on Franklin Street.
25 Years Ago – Feb. 5, 1997
Coffee, tea, juice? — Whatever your preference, the Caribou Public Library had it this past Thursday as they hosted a tea in celebration of National Hot Tea Month. Guests were greeted with dainty, ornament cups, given their choice of powdered honey, lemon or sugar and then encouraged to browse through the library’s books, many of them new.
Party — The VFWA 9389 sponsored and hosted their annual pajama party at the Maine Veterans Home recently. Everyone enjoyed pizza and soda for supper and later played a game of Bingo. Hosting the event were members Myrtle Stevens, Doris Pelkey, Gerry Smith, Frances Olmstead and Mary Olmstead.
