BANGOR, Maine — Hudson Porter took first place in the 10-11 boys’ age division at the state championship of the Elks Hoop Shoot foul shooting competition. The event was held Sunday, Feb. 6 at the James F. Doughty School.
Porter, representing Presque Isle Elks Lodge 1954, converted 17-of-25 attempts to defeat two other competitors. He is the son of Matthew and Billie Porter of Mapleton.
Azelea Pierce of Portage Lake (9-25) placed second for 8-9 girls, while Kason Bua of Mapleton (15-25) was third in the 12-13 boys’ category.
All three local competitors had claimed victories at the school/community, lodge and Northern District competitions to earn the right to make it to the state championships.
Porter will next participate in the New England Regionals, to be held in Portland March 12. Winners at this level will advance to the Elks Hoop Shoot National Finals, which takes place in Chicago April 28-May 1.
